In both 2022 and 2023, myself and my creative partner Luz Estevan entered into the Cannes Young Lions competition in the print category.

Both years we were honoured to make the shortlist, answering two fanatastic briefs, one for Social Entrepreneurs Ireland and one for GOAL. Here are our shortlisted entries...

2023: Things to do after you die (shortlisted)

The ask was to inspire people over the age of 45 to make a legacy donation in their will to GOAL.

The challenges were that many people dont want to think about death, life after they are gone. This target audience, we were told, are also adventurous, they are willing to try new things. We focused in on this insight to arrive at our creative idea - most people write bucket lists of things they want to do before they die.

What about all you can achieve after you die?

2022: The person in the mirror (shortlisted)

The ask of this brief was to encourage those with ideas for social initatives to take the first step by downloading the SEI Spark Toolkit.

One of the challenges for our audience is that these people may feel overwhelmed at setting up a new business - on the margins of society and having faced discrimination and oppression, our audience likely lacks confidence in their abilities, as well as fear and uncertainty over all the steps they will need to take to set up a business.

Our idea demonstrates how daunting and hard to understand setting up an initiative can appear. Then, once they see the prompt to hold up the page to a mirror, everything is made clear - the person they are looking at in the mirror how the power to make a change, and SEI are there to help them understand and face any obstacles that may come their way.
