The Background

2026 marks the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

Many believe its impact is in the past, but the truth is its harmful effects ripple through each new generation of children, and will continue to do so for thousands of years to come.

The Insight

It’s been 40 years since the nuclear disaster, and there’s no end in sight to its devastating impact.

But there’s no end to the support Chernobyl Children International will offer to each new generation of children affected. And, hopefully, no end to the support the organisation has received from the people of Ireland.

The Idea

‘Chornobyl is Forever’.

Use the infinity symbol to show both sides of the disaster: the old and the new, destruction and support, heaviness and hope. Showing the ongoing impact and the difference that has been made over 40 years, while indicating that this balance is infinite.

Radio

To convey the message of ‘Chornobyl is Forever’ in an audio space, our script formed a palindrome – where at the turning point about ‘hope’, the lines take on new meaning.

Chornobyl Radio 30"

“Chornobyl is forever.

We will always be here.

40 years on, forever to go,

Its impact is never ending.

That’s why we at Chornobyl Children International work to give children hope.

Its impact is never ending.

40 years on, forever to go,

We will always be here.

Chornobyl is forever.”
